Position Description: The JSC Fellow working with Urban Ministries will support community-facing programs, volunteer engagement programs, and general operations of the Urban Ministries community center. This is a 32 hour a week position with some evening and weekend commitments.
How Position Furthers Organization’s Mission: Urban Ministries of Durham is the primary point of connection for those who are homeless, hungry, or in need in Durham. They are the primary public homeless shelter in Durham, and welcome neighbors regardless of race, ethnicity, religious beliefs or non-faith, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Fellows will support the community-facing programs like the Food Pantry & Clothing Closet, the Community Café, our Volunteer Engagement Programs, and the literal front doors to our Community Resource Center.
Johnson Service Corps is a diverse, ecumenical community of young adults ages 21 to 28 dedicated to service and justice in Durham, NC. The year starts mid-August and goes through June; it is steeped in volunteer service, professional development, vocational discernment, justice training, intentional community living, and spiritual formation. You volunteer 32 hours a week at various nonprofit organizations throughout the Triangle area. In addition, we provide housing, a shared grocery budget, group counseling, spiritual retreats, health insurance, mentorship, a monthly stipend ($500/a month), and a completion bonus ($1000 at the end of the program year).
